Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dongyeon proposed to Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yoonduk that the original plan for the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway, which had been scrapped by the family of Kim Keonhee, be resumed.
On the 17th, Governor Kim wrote on his social networking service (SNS), "I met with Minister Kim Yoonduk of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to discuss key issues facing Gyeonggi Province," adding,
"The Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway project was abruptly canceled due to the former president's family attempting to turn a national project into a 'family business.' Now is the time to correct this mistake and promptly push forward with the original plan. The minister expressed strong agreement on this point."
He continued, "I also requested that as many of the railway projects proposed by Gyeonggi Province as possible, including the Southern Gyeonggi Metropolitan Railway, be included in the Fifth National Rail Network Plan. We also reached a consensus on the need for government support for the development of areas in northern Gyeonggi Province being returned by the US Forces Korea."
In particular, he explained, "The minister shared the intention to expand transportation infrastructure, including adjusting the construction costs for the GTX-C line to reflect reality and extending the SRT to the north. We also exchanged broad opinions on the swift promotion of the first-phase new town redevelopment project and changes to the preliminary feasibility study system."
He added, "Transportation and housing are the most important livelihood issues for Gyeonggi Province. I feel reassured that the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has shown a forward-looking and proactive attitude regarding Gyeonggi's issues and proposals, and it truly feels like there has been a change in administration."
