Enhancing Maintenance Efficiency and Contributing to Safe Operations
Korean Air announced on the 17th that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Boeing in the United States to strengthen cooperation in the field of aircraft predictive maintenance.
The two companies held a signing ceremony at the "MRO Asia-Pacific 2025" event in Singapore on the morning of the same day (local time). Key representatives from both sides, including Jang Chanwoo, Head of Maintenance Division at Korean Air, and Crystal Lempert, Senior Director of Digital Services at Boeing Global Services, attended the event.

Predictive maintenance refers to maintenance that anticipates when aircraft components or systems may develop defects, allowing for proactive measures before failures occur. By performing maintenance at the optimal time, it reduces both the time and cost required. This contributes to maintaining a high on-time operation rate by decreasing the number of delays and cancellations caused by aircraft defects.
The two companies have agreed to jointly carry out projects related to predictive maintenance, research and develop advanced predictive maintenance methodologies, and collaborate to apply these innovations to actual maintenance operations.
This collaboration was initiated to reduce potential defects in aircraft and enhance aircraft reliability. Korean Air plans to strengthen its predictive maintenance capabilities to improve maintenance efficiency and contribute to safe operations.
In August 2023, Korean Air established a predictive maintenance team under its Maintenance Division and has since been applying its self-developed predictive maintenance operation solution to actual aircraft maintenance.
A Korean Air representative stated, "We expect to create synergy through our extensive experience in aircraft operations, big data accumulated from real-world flight operations, Boeing's engineering knowledge and expertise, and capabilities in maintenance software development. As Korean Air continues to strengthen its smart MRO strategy, we will leverage our partnership with Boeing to secure competitiveness in the rapidly evolving field of aircraft predictive maintenance."
