Jeonju City in North Jeolla Province announced on September 17 that it will host the "2025 Jeonju National Heritage Night Tour" on September 26 and 27. The event will take place throughout the city, including Jeonju Hanok Village, Gyeonggijeon Shrine, Hyanggyo Confucian School, Pungnammun Gate, and Jeolla Provincial Government Office.
This year's Jeonju National Heritage Night Tour is hosted by Jeonju City, the National Heritage Administration, and North Jeolla Province Special Self-Governing Province, and is organized by the Culture and Arts Workshop.
This autumn night tour will feature a total of 23 programs across eight categories: Nightscape (night scenery), Night Route (themed spaces), Night Story (storytelling), Night Art (art and hands-on experiences), Night Performance (performances), Night Stay (travel and accommodation), Night Food (food), and Night Market (flea market).
In particular, the main stage at Gyeonggijeon Square will host programs wishing for Jeonju to host the Olympics. The festival will open with the "Millennium March of National Heritage," a parade of local artists featuring the festival mascots, Grandfather Taejo and Yahengi, as torchbearers. This will be followed by a performance titled "National Heritage Harmony Festival," expressing hopes for Olympic hosting and further enhancing the festive atmosphere.
At the Jeolla Provincial Government Office, the program "Birth of the Jeolla Governor" will offer mini-games cleverly combining world cultural heritage and Olympic events, along with historical storytelling featuring Joseon-era characters.
Additionally, the Jeolla Provincial Government Office will serve as a venue for hands-on experiences, such as the "National Heritage Youth Flea Market," a diverse craft experience prepared by local youth, and "National Heritage 1 Night 2 Days," where participants can enjoy camping amidst heritage sites.
There will also be a historical concert, "The Palace of Later Baekje, Night Fortress Tour," held in front of the Eojin Museum to promote Later Baekje's history and culture and offer citizens and tourists a unique experience. The "In Search of Lost Baekje" stamp tour, where participants look for traces of Gyeon Hwon throughout the festival grounds, will also take place.
Other programs highlighting the unique features of each venue include "Hyanggyo Ghost Stories," a thrilling hide-and-seek competition with the headmaster at Jeonju Hyanggyo, and "Unexpected Gugak," a special Korean traditional music concert at Pungnammun Gate. A city official stated, "Jeonju National Heritage Night Tour aims to shed new light on the value of local national heritage by utilizing content that reflects Jeonju's historical and cultural characteristics. We are continually seeking ways to modernize and make use of this heritage. Just as autumn leaves color the city, we hope Jeonju's history and culture will become part of citizens' daily lives, and we look forward to many people enjoying this night of national heritage in Jeonju."
