Weekday Stay-Type Tourism Model Linking Hoengseong, Pyeongchang, and Wonju Proven Successful
Yeongseo Inland Region of Gangwon Presents Gastronomic and Healing Stay-Type Tourism Model
Momentum Builds for Stay-Type Tourism Ahead of the "2025-2026 Visit Gangwon Years"
The Gangwon Tourism Foundation, led by CEO Choi Sunghyun, has successfully concluded the joint marketing campaign "Five Steps" involving five cities and counties in the Yeongseo inland region as part of the "2025-2026 Visit Gangwon Years" initiative, confirming the potential of stay-type tourism industries.
The foundation announced that the "Five Senses Potato Festival Goodbye Tour," which took place from September 16 to 17 in Hoengseong, Pyeongchang, and Wonju, ended successfully with great participation.
This tour was not just a simple trip, but a program designed to test the commercialization potential of weekday stay-type tourism products. It was significant in that it connected the unique tourism resources of each region into a single travel itinerary, realizing a regional linkage model.
On the first day, participants enjoyed leisure activities at the Hoengseong Luge Experience Center and sampled traditional liquor at the Kooksoondang Brewery. Then, during the "Moonlight Romantic Road" tour at the Lee Hyoseok Literature Museum in Pyeongchang, they created memories against the backdrop of blooming buckwheat fields.
On the second day, they visited Museum SAN in Wonju, where they appreciated artworks and experienced the region's unique cultural and tourism assets.
Through this project, the foundation discovered more than 10 stay-type programs in each city and county. In particular, by operating these programs during weekdays, the foundation presented a model that alleviates seasonal concentration in the tourism industry and revitalizes the local economy.
Choi Sunghyun, CEO of the Gangwon Tourism Foundation, stated, "In celebration of the '2025-2026 Visit Gangwon Years,' we provided travel experiences that combine gastronomy and healing, satisfying all five senses of the participants," adding, "We will continue to develop stay-type tourism products so that Gangwon can establish itself as the center of K-tourism."
Meanwhile, based on these achievements, the foundation plans to nurture the "Five Senses Potato Festival" as the representative gastronomic and healing stay-type tourism product of the Yeongseo inland region in Gangwon.
