Through this agreement, the two companies will collaborate to develop and promote eco-friendly cosmetic containers. CJ CheilJedang will develop and supply materials with properties suitable for cosmetic containers by applying PHA from its biodegradable materials brand "PHACT." Cosmax will then use these materials to develop various cosmetic containers and packaging.
PHA is a polymer substance that microorganisms naturally accumulate inside their cells after consuming plant-derived ingredients. It is characterized by its ability to decompose not only in industrial and home composting facilities but also in soil and marine environments. Since it does not leave behind microplastics, it is gaining attention as a next-generation material to replace petroleum-based plastics.
Cosmax plans to participate in global beauty exhibitions with CJ CheilJedang to promote cosmetic packaging utilizing PHA and to expand business with global brands through joint marketing initiatives. Seunghyun Kang, head of Cosmax R&I Unit, stated, "By collaborating with CJ CheilJedang, a leading company in the PHA sector, we will expand research and development of eco-friendly packaging that meets global standards. We will continue to develop innovative materials that reduce environmental impact as sustainable solutions and provide new value to customers."
Going forward, Cosmax plans to gradually replace hot-melt adhesives used in cosmetic containers such as cushions and palettes with PHA-based bio-materials and will continue to expand eco-friendly packaging proposals to its clients.
