Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yoonchul met with Koichi Mizushima, Japanese Ambassador to Korea, at the Government Seoul Office on the 16th to discuss ways to strengthen economic cooperation and collaboration between the two countries.

Deputy Prime Minister Koo expressed his gratitude for Ambassador Mizushima's congratulatory remarks on his appointment and said he hopes the two countries will communicate more frequently. He also noted that last month's Korea-Japan summit provided an opportunity to expand economic cooperation, and proposed increasing collaboration in future industries such as hydrogen and artificial intelligence (AI). Ambassador Mizushima also agreed on the importance of economic cooperation between the two countries and expressed hope that follow-up measures would proceed smoothly.


Deputy Prime Minister Koo stated at the meeting that the financial authorities of both countries are in discussions to hold a Korea-Japan Finance Ministers' Meeting. He also requested Japan's cooperation for the successful hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit and the Finance and Structural Reform Ministers' Meeting, both scheduled to take place in Korea next month.


Deputy Prime Minister Koo also proposed that the two countries strengthen their cooperation at major multilateral meetings such as ASEAN+3 and the Group of Twenty (G20). Ambassador Mizushima mentioned his hope that the two countries will continue dialogue to further enhance cooperation in the international community. Both officials also shared the view that it is important to maintain the momentum of shuttle diplomacy, which has been restored in various fields including society and the economy, through last month's Korea-Japan summit.
