Cheongdo County to Launch "Artist Creative Space Development Project" in Earnest... Construction to Begin at End of October

An Open Cultural Platform Co-Created by Residents and Artists

The "Artist Creative Space Development Project," a key initiative being promoted by Cheongdo County (Governor Kim Hasu), is set to break ground at the end of October, drawing high expectations from the local arts community and residents.

This project is a mid- to long-term strategic initiative planned by Cheongdo County to lay the foundation for becoming a hub city for culture, arts, and tourism, and to provide long-term support for artists' creative activities.

With a total project cost of 4.7 billion won, the project began with the implementation design last year and has since undergone various administrative procedures. From the early stages, Cheongdo County actively incorporated the opinions of local artists.

Additionally, since the project will be located in Gakbuk-myeon, a resident briefing session was held on September 5 to gather feedback from local residents.

The planned creative space will repurpose the former Gakbuk branch of the now-closed Punggak Middle School, transforming it into a multi-purpose cultural complex that goes beyond simple studios to include exhibition, performance, residency, and educational programs.

This is a strategic approach aimed at creating a cultural ecosystem where local artists, residents, and tourists can thrive together, moving beyond short-term support for artistic activities.

An official from Cheongdo County stated, "All schedules have proceeded smoothly so far, and after construction begins, we expect not only to support the creative activities of local artists but also to generate a significant impact as a cultural and tourism resource for Cheongdo County."

In particular, this creative space is designed to be more than just a place for artists; it aims to maximize its cultural impact through resident participation programs and connections with small-scale local festivals.

Furthermore, by attracting external artists through nationwide open calls and operating exchange programs, the project aims to establish itself as a hub in a nationwide cultural network.

Building on this creative space, Cheongdo County is preparing to become a hub city for culture, arts, and tourism, and expects to generate a variety of policy synergies, such as improving living conditions and attracting new residents to the area.

Kim Hasu, Governor of Cheongdo County, emphasized, "This creative space development project is not simply about constructing a building, but an important opportunity to rediscover and recreate the region's cultural assets. We will do our utmost to establish a sustainable cultural foundation where residents and artists can grow together."
