On September 16, Samsung Electronics announced, "Through this update, we plan to provide users with advanced multimodal features, a user experience (UX) optimized for various devices, and personalized functions."
The One UI 8 update will start with the Galaxy S25 series and expand to additional supported devices within this year. The update will also be rolled out sequentially, beginning in South Korea and continuing to North America, Europe, and other regions.
The key features of One UI 8 include providing personalized suggestions optimized for users' daily lives and protecting AI experiences with robust security technology.
In the 'Now Bar', activities from applications (apps) such as Phone, Do Not Disturb mode, and Samsung Wallet are now additionally displayed in the Flex Window. It also integrates with more third-party apps, enabling the delivery of a wider range of information.
'Now Brief' offers more personalized information, including traffic conditions, major notifications, and health updates. Users can receive music and video recommendations based on their subscription status and interests.
To ensure the safe use of personalized AI-based features, a new security solution called 'KEEP' has been introduced. KEEP creates an encrypted storage space for each app within the device's secure storage area, so that each app can only access its own sensitive information and is restricted from accessing information from other apps.
'Knox Matrix' automatically logs out of the Samsung account if a device faces a serious threat, preventing the spread of the risk. It also sends notifications across all connected Galaxy devices, enabling users to take appropriate security measures.
One UI 8 helps ensure Google's AI features operate smoothly. When using the Circle to Search feature to look up items or strategies while gaming, users can quickly access the information they need without interrupting their gameplay.
Circle to Search also supports real-time translation. Users can view translated screens not only on the current display but also while scrolling up and down or navigating between pages.
The 'Live Call Caption' feature converts voices recognized during calls into real-time captions. This enables communication even in noisy environments, and when using the 'Interpreter' function, sentences typed on the keyboard can also be translated in real time in addition to voice.
Gemini Live can now run in the Flex Window of the Galaxy Z Flip. Voice commands are available even on the cover screen, allowing users to intuitively perform various tasks. Gemini Live in the Flex Window is available on the Galaxy Z Flip5, Z Flip6, and Z Flip7.
Users can easily change the Flex Window wallpaper with recommended images from the device, and emoji wallpapers can also be freely customized in terms of color and design.
The clock displayed on the front display of the Galaxy Z Flip changes the shape of its numbers to match the wallpaper. Depending on the outline of a person or animal (dog, cat, bird), the clock is naturally positioned, ensuring the time is clearly visible regardless of the background image.
Below is the list of devices eligible for the One UI 8 update.
