Mayor Na Dongyeon Visits Key Ministries
Requests Government Support for Regional Issues
On September 15, Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province visited key government ministries, including the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. During these visits, city officials met with relevant personnel to discuss current projects and requested government support.
This visit took place at the Government Complex Sejong to strengthen cooperation with the central government. The main objectives were to secure national funding for pending projects and to discuss initiatives reflected in national policy agendas.
The delegation included Mayor Na Dongyeon and about 20 officials from related departments. They held extensive discussions on a range of issues, including the construction of the Southeastern Metropolitan Circular Railway, the attraction of the UN International Logistics Center, the increase of standard labor costs, and support through special grants.
In discussions with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the delegation emphasized the importance of the Southeastern Metropolitan Circular Railway project, which will connect Gimhae, Yangsan, and Ulsan as a major transportation infrastructure. They requested active cooperation to ensure that the preliminary feasibility study fully considers policy effectiveness and the need for balanced regional development, so that the project can proceed without delay.
Additionally, they called for swift follow-up measures to ensure the smooth progress of the Busan-Ungsang-Ulsan Metropolitan Railway project, which has already passed the preliminary feasibility study.
At the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the delegation requested an increase in standard staffing and labor costs to better respond to administrative demands related to national policies and regional issues. They also requested 15 billion won in special grants to support the smooth progress of the construction of the Mulgeum-eup Administrative Welfare Center annex and the Jujin Bulbit Park development project.
At the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the delegation requested a review of the possibility of attracting the UN International Logistics Center earlier than the scheduled expiration of the Yangsan ICD site lease in 2040, as announced in August as a national policy task. They also called for active support, considering the project's international significance and economic ripple effects.
Mayor Na Dongyeon stated, "As we face a period of rapid change in domestic and international policy environments, we will respond swiftly to these changes and work closely with the government to resolve local issues as soon as possible." He added, "Above all, we will do our utmost to secure national funding to drive regional development and deliver tangible changes that citizens can feel."
