Haenam County in South Jeolla Province announced on September 15 that it received the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award at the 14th Korea Knowledge Awards, hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.

The winners are selected by combining 80% expert evaluation and 20% public evaluation. This year, 115 organizations, including central government agencies, local governments, and public institutions, applied, and 20 organizations were awarded. Haenam County was recognized for its innovation and excellence as the first in the nation to implement a unified village CCTV control project.

The county has established an integrated intelligent CCTV control system incorporating advanced technology and improved efficiency through a dedicated line integration policy. Since 2022, it has been replacing outdated CCTVs and installing new ones in all 515 villages within the county, thereby expanding its safety network.

The village CCTVs are monitored around the clock at the Haenam County CCTV Integrated Control Center, playing a crucial role in securing the golden time for residents' safety. The county is focusing on shortening initial response times and enhancing the perceived safety of residents by establishing a real-time information-sharing and organic cooperation system with relevant agencies, such as the police and fire departments, in the event of crimes, fires, disasters, and other incidents. The county explained that this system has been particularly effective in ensuring the safety of vulnerable groups, including children, women, and the elderly, thereby addressing blind spots in public safety.

Deputy Governor Son Myeongdo stated, "This award is the result of our relentless efforts to ensure the safety of our residents," adding, "We will continue to do our best to make Haenam a safe rural city where all residents can live with peace of mind and happiness by further advancing the integrated CCTV control system."
