"Lee Nakyon's Deliberate Photo Politics" Pointed Out by Ruling Bloc

Choo Mi-ae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized former President Moon Jaein, who met with Lee Nakyon, the standing advisor of the New Future Democratic Party, saying, "It is the duty of an adult to discipline when it is time to discipline." On the 15th, Assemblywoman Choo wrote on social media, "If you are uncomfortable with discipline, you will be cunningly taken advantage of by subordinates," reiterating her point. She posted a photo of former President Moon meeting with Standing Advisor Lee, as well as a photo of Lee shaking hands with Kim Moonsoo, the People Power Party’s candidate, ahead of the June presidential election.

Previously, on the 13th, Standing Advisor Lee posted a photo on social media of himself meeting former President Moon and his wife in Pyeongsan Village, Yangsan, Gyeongnam, writing, "We exchanged Chuseok greetings, caught up on recent events, talked about past matters, and even discussed Makgeolli." He added, "The couple is in very good health and has been visiting many meaningful places." Standing Advisor Lee left the Democratic Party ahead of the general election in April last year.

The cause was his conflict with Lee Jaemyung, then the Democratic Party leader, during the 2022 Democratic Party primary. He founded New Future (now the New Future Democratic Party) and ran for office in Gwangsan-eul, Gwangju, but was defeated. In the last presidential election, he publicly supported Kim Moonsoo, the People Power Party’s presidential candidate. Assemblywoman Choo also posted a screenshot of a news article in which former President Moon said in January 2021, "Yoon Sukyeol is the Prosecutor General of the Moon Jaein administration. Prosecutor General Yoon will not consider entering politics."

Continuous Criticism from the Democratic Progressive Bloc: "Deliberate Photo Politics"

Meanwhile, within the Democratic Party, criticism has continued to be directed at both former President Moon and Standing Advisor Lee. Lee Unju, a Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party, wrote, "Former President Moon must have known that meeting Standing Advisor Lee would inevitably be interpreted politically, so was it really necessary to release such a welcoming photo?" Ko Minjung, a lawmaker who served as spokesperson for the Moon Jaein administration’s Blue House, also wrote on social media, calling it "deliberate photo politics" and "a self-confession that it is now impossible to continue in politics without relying on someone else." She added, "Politics that cannot even prove its own reason for existence. It seems everyone knows this except the person himself."

Cho Kuk, the emergency committee chair of the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, also posted a photo on his Instagram story of Standing Advisor Lee and former People Power Party presidential candidate Kim Moonsoo clasping hands. The photo was taken at a rally in Gwanghwamun on June 2, the day before the 21st presidential election, when Lee took the stage to deliver a speech supporting Kim. Although Chair Cho did not add any further explanation, it is interpreted as criticism of Standing Advisor Lee for publicly announcing his meeting with former President Moon.
