Jeongseon County in Gangwon Province has identified 143 new policy initiatives for 2026 to usher in an era of happiness for its residents and drive the future development of the county.
On September 15, the county held a major policy briefing for 2026 under the theme "Jeongseon, the Hometown of the People, Designing Happiness," presided over by Jeongseon County Mayor Choi Seungjun in the county office's small conference room, with department heads and relevant officials in attendance.
During the briefing, projects aimed at overcoming the crisis of local extinction and creating a happier Jeongseon were reported. These include addressing population decline, promoting the designation of Gariwangsan as a national garden, fostering Kangwon Land as a global resort, and improving the regional transportation network, all tailored to local needs and implemented through newly developed policies.
The newly identified initiatives total 143, comprising 30 from the Administration Bureau, 62 from the Facilities Bureau, and 51 from affiliated agencies and business offices.
Key initiatives include the Top 10 Policy Proposals from Jeongseon County Residents, a marriage incentive support project, support for senior employment and social activities, a traditional market specialization branding project, safety and storage management inspections, the establishment of an integrated tourism site management system, a youth farmer development project, and the discovery of new tourist attractions in Jeongseon County.
The newly developed initiatives will be refined and incorporated into the main work plan for 2026 through further project development and securing of budget allocations.
Choi Seungjun, Jeongseon County Mayor, stated, "We will design policies in line with the desires of our residents, discover projects that bring about real changes in daily life, and accelerate the advancement of major initiatives such as improving the regional transportation network, attracting the designation of Gariwangsan as a national garden, and fostering Kangwon Land as a global resort by easing regulations, thereby opening an era of happiness where everyone wants to live in Jeongseon."
