Gwangju Buk-gu has finalized its second supplementary budget for this year at 1.25 trillion won. This represents an increase of approximately 180 billion won compared to the original budget.
Buk-gu announced on the 15th that the supplementary budget proposal prepared last August was finalized after a 14-day review and resolution process by the Buk-gu Council, which began on the 28th of last month. The focus of this supplementary budget is on revitalizing the local economy amid an economic downturn and enhancing projects that improve residents' quality of life.
The budget for local economic revitalization includes 82.1 billion won for livelihood recovery consumption coupons, 580 million won for fostering social economy enterprises unique to Gwangju, and 63 million won for supporting local commercial districts. In particular, for the livelihood recovery consumption coupons, an additional 6 billion won from the district's own funds was allocated on top of government subsidies to ensure the seamless distribution of the second round of consumption coupons, which will begin on the 22nd.
Other allocations include 510 million won to support the installation of flood barriers for resident safety, 420 million won for repairs to the Buk-gu Cultural Center's stormwater drain, 350 million won for reinforcement of the Balsan Bridge, and 410 million won for heatwave countermeasures. Projects to improve resident convenience include 720 million won for the construction of the Ochi 2-dong Community Center, 140 million won for green remodeling of public buildings, and 120 million won for remodeling the Duam 2-dong Community Center.
Additionally, 550 million won has been allocated for congratulatory coexistence cards for families with newborns, 370 million won for expanding youth self-directed spaces, 220 million won for supporting senior centers, and 27 million won for paternity leave incentives, all aimed at strengthening the social welfare safety net. District Mayor Moon In stated, "We will do our utmost to ensure that livelihood recovery and projects to improve resident convenience are implemented quickly so that residents can truly experience positive changes."
Meanwhile, Buk-gu has recently secured 19.7 billion won, including national and municipal funds, to support the recovery of flood-damaged areas and to provide assistance for stabilizing daily life.
