Governor Kim Youngrok: "I Will Usher in a New Era for Jeollanam-do Together with Hometown Association Members" Jeollanam-do Governor Kim Youngrok is welcoming Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party, and other distinguished guests as well as hometown members from various cities and counties at the "Gwangju Jeonnam City and Province Residents' Unity Festival" held on the 13th at Bucheon Sports Complex in Gyeonggi Province. Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, once again expressed his determination to do his utmost for the development of the Honam region, joining hands with hometown association members.


On the 13th, Governor Kim wrote on his Facebook page, "I attended the 70th anniversary Gwangju Jeonnam City and Province Residents' Unity Festival held in Gyeonggi Province today," adding, "It was beautiful to see people from all generations- from the first generation who left their hometowns to the younger members today- coming together in harmony."


He went on to say, "For the past 70 years, the Gwangju Jeonnam City and Province Residents' Association has been a strong supporter, providing both material and emotional support for the development of Jeollanam-do. Thanks to their willingness to step forward for their hometown, no matter the distance, Jeollanam-do has been able to make new leaps forward."


He also wrote, "Today, the association pledged to contribute 30 million won in Hometown Love donations and to actively support the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo. I am always deeply grateful for the unwavering love our hometown association members have for their roots."


In conclusion, Governor Kim added, "Going forward, together with our hometown association members, I will vigorously usher in the era of 'Truly OK, Now Is the Time for Jeollanam-do.'"


Meanwhile, at the 70th anniversary Gwangju Jeonnam City and Province Residents' Unity Festival held at Bucheon Sports Complex in Gyeonggi Province on the 13th, over 5,000 attendees were present, including Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do; Kim Dongyeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province; Jeong Geunsik, Superintendent of Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education; Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party; National Assembly members Lee Gaeho, Park Hongkeun, and Shin Jeonghoon; Yoon Byungtae, Mayor of Naju; Cho Yongik, Mayor of Bucheon; Oh Seungrok, Head of Nowon District; Choi Soonmo, President of the National Honam Hometown Association Federation; as well as representatives from hometown associations from various regions and other distinguished guests.


The Gwangju Jeonnam City and Province Residents' Association is composed of hometown associations from 22 cities and counties in Jeollanam-do and from Gwangju Metropolitan City. According to the association, there are approximately 5 million people from Gwangju and Jeonnam who have moved away from their hometowns.
