"Founded JYP, Home to Rain and Wonder Girls"
Billboard Highlights J.Y. Park's Career Since Debut

Billboard has put the spotlight on J.Y. Park, CEO and Chief Producer of JYP Entertainment, who has been nominated as Co-Chairman of the Presidential Commission on Popular Culture Exchange. The Popular Culture Exchange Commission is a newly established body aimed at creating a public-private partnership system necessary for the global spread of Korean culture.

On September 10 (local time), Billboard reported Park's nomination as Co-Chairman through its official website and social media channels. The outlet noted, "It is unprecedented for an active artist to be appointed to a ministerial-level position." Billboard also emphasized that Park has been loved by the public since his debut in 1994, and that he founded JYP Entertainment in 1996, producing numerous Hallyu stars.

Billboard also highlighted that in 2009, the girl group Wonder Girls, under JYP Entertainment, entered the Billboard Hot 100 main chart with "Nobody." "Nobody" is known as the first Korean song to appear on the Billboard Hot 100. In this context, the outlet explained, "J.Y. Park, who debuted as a solo singer in 1994, continues to be greatly loved by the public," adding, "Last year, he held a concert in Seoul to mark the 30th anniversary of his debut."

The report continued, "By producing numerous artists such as Rain, Wonder Girls, 2PM, Twice, Day6, and Stray Kids, he has grown JYP Entertainment into one of Korea’s leading entertainment companies. Twice, celebrating their 10th anniversary, is currently on a world tour this year, and the continued success of the company’s major artists suggests a strong outlook for the business."

Meanwhile, right after his nomination as Co-Chairman on September 9, Park stated on his personal social media, "I will organize the areas where I thought institutional support was needed while working in the field, to ensure effective support is provided," and, "I will strive to create better opportunities for junior artists." He added, "Taking on a government role is burdensome and worrisome for someone working in the entertainment industry, but K-pop is now facing an extraordinary opportunity, and I decided to accept the position because I believe we must make the most of this chance."
