Although there was some disappointment at the start of the festival due to weather conditions preventing the buckwheat flowers from fully blooming, recent stable temperatures and weather have led to the buckwheat flowers blossoming in full across the Bongpyeong area, offering visitors the beautiful scenery of early autumn.
Pyeongchang County stated on the 9th that approximately 80,000 visitors have visited Bongpyeong Hyoseok Cultural Village and the Heungjeongcheon area within just five days of the festival’s opening. The daily average number of visitors was 20,000, with the highest single-day attendance reaching 35,000 over the weekend.
Celebrating its 26th year, the Pyeongchang Hyoseok Cultural Festival runs for ten days until the 14th. At the Bongpyeong Traditional Market adjacent to the festival grounds, local agricultural specialties and regional foods from Pyeongchang are being sold, and buckwheat cooking experience events are proving popular. In the dome performance hall, traditional and fusion performances are featured, creating a stage where local artists and residents come together.

During the festival, the 46th National Hyoseok Writing Contest and the 26th Lee Hyo-seok Literary Award ceremony are being held, boosting the pride of literary figures. Participatory programs such as the 'Three-Line Poem Contest,' 'Photo Contest,' and 'Find the Golden Buckwheat' event are also taking place.
Kim Bokjae, head of the county’s tourism policy department, said, "The Hyoseok Cultural Festival is Korea’s representative autumn festival where you can enjoy both the pristine nature of Bongpyeong and the literature of Lee Hyo-seok. Especially this year, visitors will be able to experience unique charms both during the day and at night."
