Plan to Spread the Culture of Love for Hangeul Nationwide
The "KBS National Singing Contest: Sejong City, Hangeul Cultural City Edition" will be held to commemorate both the inaugural year of Sejong City as a Hangeul Cultural City and the 579th Hangeul Day.
The National Singing Contest is a participatory program that has aired since 1980, reflecting the unique characteristics of each region and promoting unity and development among citizens. The city plans to use this special edition of the contest, marking its designation as a Hangeul Cultural City, to spread a culture of love for Hangeul not only among local residents but also to people across the country.
The preliminary round will take place at 1 p.m. on October 9, which marks the 579th Hangeul Day, at the Yeomin Hall in Sejong City Hall. The finals will be held at 2 p.m. on October 11 at the Urban Festival Plaza in Sejong Central Park. The recorded broadcast is scheduled to air nationwide on KBS1 in January next year.
Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis for 300 teams only, from September 22 to September 26, for a total of five days. Eligibility is limited to Sejong City residents, business owners, employees, and students based in Sejong City. Professional singers and those with a history of commercial music releases or public activities are not eligible to participate.
To apply, participants can either visit their local administrative welfare center to fill out an application form or download the form from the Sejong City Hall website and submit it via email to the designated official.
Meanwhile, to celebrate the 579th Hangeul Day, the city will present the 2025 Hangeul International Pre-Biennale, which elevates Hangeul culture through art, until October 12. Additionally, a variety of events, including the 2025 Hangeul Run commemorating the creation of Hangeul, are being prepared.
