Regarding the unauthorized micro-payment incident involving KT, the police have launched an investigation after receiving a report that damages were also incurred through an Apple account.
On September 11, the Gwanak Police Station in Seoul announced that it had received a report from a KT subscriber, identified as A, claiming to have suffered micro-payment damages through an Apple account.
On September 6, A reportedly received 15 text messages over approximately 13 minutes, each indicating that content usage fees had been charged. The estimated amount of damages is around 990,000 won.
A is said to have passed through Geumcheon-gu in Seoul and Gwangmyeong-si in Gyeonggi Province-areas where KT micro-payment damages have been concentrated-during commuting, and to have activated a mobile phone in Gwangmyeong-si about a year ago.
A police official stated, "We are currently verifying the details and circumstances of the damages."
