Impact of Competition Among Carriers to Attract Subscribers
The domestic smartphone market in the second quarter, during which customer migration from SK Telecom to other carriers was active following the hacking incident, grew by more than 10% year-on-year.
On September 11, market research firm IDC Korea announced that the domestic smartphone market reached 3.32 million units shipped in the second quarter, a 10.9% increase compared to a year earlier.
IDC Korea analyzed that the market showed strong growth, particularly in the premium smartphone segment, as some economic uncertainties at home and abroad were resolved, Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S25 series performed well, and telecom operators engaged in aggressive marketing to attract customers.
Additionally, demand for cost-effective devices increased, as overseas manufacturers such as Xiaomi opened official stores in Korea.
Shipments of foldable smartphones reached 110,000 units, recording a double-digit growth rate compared to the previous year.
