Yeoncheon County Releases 180,000 Daenonggaengi Fry into Hantan and Imjin Rivers Kim Deokhyun, the governor of Yeoncheon County, is releasing 180,000 young Daenonggaengi fish into the Hantan River and Imjin River waters with local fishermen on the 11th. Provided by Yeoncheon County

The Daenonggaengi (also known as 'Geureongchi') is a native freshwater fish belonging to the catfish family. It inhabits clean, sandy or muddy riverbeds and grows to over 30 centimeters in length. As a popular and economically valuable species among freshwater spicy stew enthusiasts, it plays a crucial role in river ecosystems by purifying water and maintaining biodiversity.

Fishermen in Yeoncheon County are directly producing healthy Daenonggaengi fry using specialized aquaculture facilities and management techniques. This approach increases survival rates and adaptability when the fry are released into the wild, as the young fish undergo systematic health management and environmental adaptation training before being released into the river.

Meanwhile, in the first half of this year, Yeoncheon County released a variety of aquatic resources, including eel, freshwater snails, mitten crabs, and Korean perch. Following this release of Daenonggaengi, the county plans to purchase and release additional freshwater snails by the end of the year.

Kim Deokhyun, the governor of Yeoncheon County, stated, "Restoring disappearing native fish species to our rivers not only helps revive the aquatic ecosystem but also significantly boosts fishermen's incomes. We will continue our efforts to maintain the diversity of aquatic resources in the future."
