The Federation of Korean Industries announced on September 11 that it will co-host the "International Conference on Entrepreneurship as a Sustainable Future Growth Engine" with the World Bank at the FKI Tower Conference Center in Yeouido on September 22.
This event is being organized to assess the importance of entrepreneurship for corporate innovation amid the weakening of South Korea's economic growth engines and to explore strategies for renewed growth. Around 120 participants from academia and industry are expected to attend.
The keynote speech will be delivered by Erkko Autio, Professor at Imperial College London and founder of the Global Entrepreneurship Development Institute.
He will give a presentation on "A New Roadmap for Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Growth Engines," followed by a discussion with Lee Keun, President of the Korean Economic Association. According to a 2024 Stanford University report, Professor Autio is ranked among the top 0.2% of scientists worldwide in terms of research impact.
Session 1 will feature presentations by Ismael Belkhayat, founder of the Moroccan fintech company Chari, and Kim Dongchan, CEO of Samyang Foods, who will share their challenges and strategies for overcoming obstacles as entrepreneurs. The panel discussion will include Professor Baek Yongwook of KAIST and Choi Jaesik, CEO of the artificial intelligence startup INEEJI.
Session 2 will feature presentations by Frederic Meunier, Senior Economist at the World Bank, and Lee Kyuseok, Senior Research Fellow at the Korea Economic Research Institute, on global entrepreneurship trends and their implications for the Korean economy.
