Yeongdeungpo District in Seoul (District Mayor Choi Hogwon) will hold an opening ceremony for the newly established "Yanghwa Dog Playground" and a "Walking Event with Dogs" on September 21 at Anyangcheon (next to the Children's Traffic Safety Experience Center under Yanghwa Bridge).
This event is designed as a festival where residents and their dogs can come together. Around 200 residents and guests, along with about 100 dogs, are expected to participate.
The official opening ceremony for the dog playground will take place at 5 p.m. on the 21st. After the signboard unveiling and ribbon-cutting, a 1-kilometer walking event with dogs will follow. On the day of the event, 30 households will be recruited on a first-come, first-served basis at the venue to join those who registered in advance.
Various experience and promotional booths will be set up at the venue, including dog health check-ups, emergency CPR training, hygiene grooming, pet tarot readings, and caricature drawing. These activities are open not only to dog owners but also to all local residents.
Until the official opening, the playground is operating on a trial basis from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and only dogs that are registered and accompanied by their owners are allowed entry. Starting from the official opening on the 21st, the playground will be open 24 hours a day.
The facility is divided into separate areas for large dogs and small to medium-sized dogs, and is equipped with amenities such as benches, hurdles, drinking fountains, and urination facilities. However, visitors must bring waste bags and leashes, and entry is restricted for dangerous breeds, unregistered dogs, or aggressive dogs.
Choi Hogwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo District, stated, "The Yanghwa Dog Playground will become a valuable space in the city where dogs and their owners can enjoy time together," adding, "We will continue to foster a healthy culture where people and companion animals coexist in harmony."
