A worker in his 60s died after being struck by a falling rock during a valley waterway construction project in Uiryeong, South Gyeongsang Province.
According to the Uiryeong Police Station on September 10, at around 10 a.m. on September 8, Mr. A was hit by a rock that fell from a stone embankment about one meter high while working on a valley waterway construction site on a mountain in Garye-myeon, Uiryeong County.
Mr. A suffered severe injuries to his cervical spine as a result of the accident. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment but ultimately passed away at 12:44 p.m. on September 10.
The construction project was reportedly commissioned by Uiryeong County to improve areas at risk of landslides, with a local cooperative in charge of the work.
The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident, questioning those involved in the construction project.
