Service Expansion to 80 Stores by Year-End
Product Selection to Grow from 6,000 to Over 10,000 Items
Emart is set to significantly expand its quick commerce service.
On September 11, Emart announced its plan to increase the number of stores offering quick commerce services from the current 61 locations by adding at least 19 more, bringing the total to around 80 stores by the end of the year. The number of available products will also rise from 6,000 to over 10,000.
To enhance customer service in last-mile delivery, Emart has been operating a multi-channel approach by adding SSG.com’s BaroQuick platform to the existing Baemin (Baedal Minjok) platform since September 1. The number of orders on SSG.com BaroQuick has more than doubled compared to when it first launched.
Emart’s analysis of service usage trends over the past 10 months revealed that more than 50% of quick commerce customers are in their 20s and 30s. In terms of product sales, grocery items such as fresh and processed foods accounted for 90% of sales, with particularly high interest in small-portion products, deli items, frozen meat, and meal kits. The company also noted that trendy items popular among Millennials & Gen Z, such as low-sugar products and desserts, were frequently added to shopping carts. Demand for household and office supplies has also increased, with the non-food sales share rising from 3% in the early stages to 10% recently.
From today until September 21, Emart will hold a grand opening event on both SSG.com and Baemin. Both platforms will offer special deals on 10 selected products, weekday time deals from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and a 5,000 won Emarticon gift for purchases over 50,000 won.
On SSG.com, customers will receive 3,000 won SSG Money for purchases over 30,000 won. Additionally, by sharing the event link with friends and making a purchase over 30,000 won, customers can receive free delivery. Baemin will offer free delivery for purchases over 30,000 won and a 10% discount coupon based on the purchase amount.
Kim Hyungsoo, head of Emart’s Quick Commerce Task Force, stated, “Through collaboration between Emart, a leading offline grocery retailer, and platform specialists, we will provide a differentiated quick commerce customer experience. We will continue to improve our infrastructure and systems to deliver better products to customers more quickly.”
