According to Thai media outlet The Thaiger on September 8 (local time), a 39-year-old Korean man punched an 81-year-old British man in front of a shopping mall in Udon Thani Province, Thailand, on the afternoon of September 7. The British man suffered a laceration above his eyebrow, resulting in significant bleeding, and his injuries were severe enough that his clothes were stained with blood.
According to witness statements, the British man arrived at the shopping mall first but was denied entry because pets were not allowed. Shortly after, the Korean man arrived by taxi. The British man reportedly approached him, exchanged a brief conversation, and then the assault began.
Immediately after the assault, the Korean man entered the shopping mall, while the British man received first aid at the scene. Police, who responded to the report, arrested the Korean man on the spot as he was leaving the mall after shopping.
During the police investigation, the Korean man claimed that he was having an argument with the taxi driver when the British man suddenly approached, glared at him, and tried to touch him, so he acted in self-defense by throwing a punch. However, after receiving medical treatment, the British man went to the police station and officially filed a complaint.
According to local media, the Korean man had moved to Udon Thani about two weeks prior to the incident and had been working in website management. Thai police have charged the Korean man with two offenses, including assault, which are classified as serious crimes punishable by up to five years in prison.
