Yudongseong of HD Hyundai Samho Named Master in Mechanical Maintenance
"Technical expertise on-site is an invaluable asset the company must preserve"
For the first time in the shipbuilding industry, HD Hyundai has produced a father-son duo of Korean Masters.
HD Hyundai announced on September 10 that at the "2025 Skilled Technicians Day Ceremony" held at the Fairmont Ambassador Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul, on the previous day, Go Mincheol, an engineer from HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Yudongseong, a technician from HD Hyundai Samho, were each selected as Korean Masters in the sheet metal fabrication and mechanical maintenance trades, respectively. Go was recognized as the first father-son Korean Master in the shipbuilding industry, as he is the son of Go Yoonyeol, a master in the sheet metal fabrication trade who previously worked at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Since joining the company in 2012, Go has worked in the Plant Equipment Production Department and is currently the head of the production team for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) at the SMR·ITER Production Department. He was recognized for introducing the three-dimensional measurement device "Laser Tracker" to sites requiring high precision, thereby revolutionizing the quality measurement system and significantly improving both the productivity and precision of sheet metal structures. His father, Go Yoonyeol, joined HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in 1978 and led major projects such as the Jubail Industrial Port in Saudi Arabia and the Donghae Gas Facility.
Yudongseong, a technician at HD Hyundai Samho, became the first Korean Master in the company’s history. Since joining in 1994 and participating from the construction of the Yeongam Shipyard, he has worked on-site for over 30 years, contributing to increased productivity and sales by systematizing the ship launching facility system based on onshore construction methods.

The title of Korean Master is the highest honor awarded by the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the Human Resources Development Service of Korea to artisans who have accumulated outstanding skills and experience in the industrial field for over 15 years, contributing to national industrial development. This year, a total of 11 individuals were selected as Korean Masters, with HD Hyundai accounting for two of them.
An HD Hyundai representative emphasized, "The technical expertise and craftsmanship found on-site are invaluable assets that HD Hyundai must preserve," adding, "We will continue to support skilled workers so they can take pride in their professions and continue to grow."
