Western Gyeongnam Four Counties Administrative Council Holds 6th Meeting in Sancheong

Lawmakers and Local Leaders Join Forces
to Address Key Issues and Improve Residents' Welfare

Sancheong County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on September 9 that it held the "6th Western Gyeongnam Four Counties Administrative Council" in the county governor's office.

The heads of four organizations from Sancheong, Hamyang, Geochang, and Hapcheon, along with Congressman Shin Sungbeom, attended the council to discuss plans for mutual cooperation as well as requests and collaboration items specific to each county.

In particular, there was an in-depth discussion on strategies for operating a public postpartum care center in the northern region to address population decline and promote residents' welfare, as well as strengthening childbirth and childcare support. The council also discussed establishing an operational system for the Northwestern Childcare Dream Center.

Additionally, the participants discussed forming a sports event planning team (tentative name) to support the successful hosting of the 66th South Gyeongsang Provincial Residents Sports Festival, which will be jointly organized by the four counties in 2027. They also covered support for running the sports festival and plans for the construction and renovation of stadiums and sports facilities.

County-specific agenda items included: ▲A proposal to upgrade local rivers (Yangcheon, Deokcheongang) to national rivers ▲A request to expand disaster relief fund coverage and adjust restoration cost standards (Sancheong County) ▲Promotion of the 20th Hamyang Wild Ginseng Festival in 2025 ▲Operation of a weekend health tour program at the Anti-Aging Center (Hamyang County) ▲Promotion of the 2025 Geochang Hanmadang Grand Festival ▲Promotion of the 5th Gamaksan Flower Star Tour (Geochang County) ▲Implementation of disaster recovery projects for flood damage from July 16 to 20 ▲Hosting the 4th Hwangmaesan Silver Grass Festival ▲Welcoming visitors to the Shinsoryang Sports Park Pink Muhly Grass event ▲Hosting the 3rd Hapcheon Hwangto Korean Beef Festival (Hapcheon County).

Congressman Shin Sungbeom stated, "This council was a meaningful occasion where the four counties of western Gyeongnam discussed shared issues and sought solutions together. I will actively work to ensure that the Daejeon-Namhae railway construction project is included in the 5th National Rail Network Construction Plan, and will also strive to support the proposal to upgrade local rivers to national rivers."

County Governor Lee Seunghwa said, "Going forward, the four counties will continue to work together to discover and promote projects for regional coexistence and shared prosperity, and I will provide active support to facilitate this collaboration."
