On September 4 at 2:00 p.m., Yeonggwang County in South Jeolla Province held an interim report meeting for the "Basic Plan Establishment Service for the Creation of an Offshore Wind Power Support Port and Linkage with Local Industries" in the main conference room on the third floor of the county office.
This service, which began in July, aims to develop strategies for establishing support port infrastructure to back the large-scale offshore wind power projects currently underway in nearby waters, and to link these efforts with local industries to create a foundation for sustainable growth.
The meeting was attended by representatives from Yeonggwang County, the Yeonggwang County Council, Yeonggwang Technical High School, the offshore wind power business consortium, and other stakeholders from industry, academia, and government. They discussed the direction of the project, key tasks, and shared a variety of opinions.
Through this service, Yeonggwang County plans to comprehensively review: strategies for creating a support port capable of handling logistics and transportation of offshore wind power equipment; the establishment of an operation and maintenance (O&M) support system; plans to build an offshore wind power industry cluster; the development of education and training programs to nurture local specialists; measures for coexistence and mutual growth with Yeonggwang's fishermen; and the organization of resident participation forums to promote understanding and shift perceptions regarding offshore wind power.
A county official stated, "This service is an important starting point for revitalizing the local economy through the offshore wind power industry and establishing an eco-friendly industrial base in line with the era of energy transition," adding, "We will do our best to advance toward an offshore wind power model for mutual growth that all county residents can experience together."
