On September 8, Mayor Lee issued a statement saying, "I am deeply dismayed to see Hwaseong City and the project developer turning a blind eye to the unilateral sacrifice of not only the 270,000 citizens of Osan City, who will suffer significant damage from the construction of the logistics center, but also the residents of Dongtan New Town." He urged them to reconsider the project.
He argued, "If a logistics center as large as COEX is completed in 2027, the number of vehicles passing through the nearby Gyeonggidong-ro will reach 12,000 per day. Nevertheless, Hwaseong City and the project developer are pushing ahead with the project without presenting any fundamental solutions to the traffic problems."
Mayor Lee also took a firm stance against Hwaseong City. He stated, "Hwaseong City must pursue mutual prosperity with Osan City, its neighboring city, and take the lead in administration for the benefit of residents. Do not force unilateral sacrifices on Osan City and its residents, and fully withdraw the logistics center construction plan."
The project involves building a logistics center with a total floor area of 406,000 square meters, consisting of four underground and seven above-ground floors, in the Jangji-dong 1131 area of Hwaseong City. The plan recently passed the review of the Gyeonggi Province Traffic Impact Assessment Committee.
