Large-Scale Research Projects to Be Conducted Over the Next Five Years
Soongsil University announced on September 10 that it has been selected for the "2025 University Basic Research Institute Support Project," organized by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea.
The University Basic Research Institute Support Project is a flagship government initiative to bolster academic research infrastructure. Over the next five years, it will provide a total of 25 billion KRW (approximately 19 million USD) in research funding to promote innovation in basic sciences and foster university research institutes as world-class research hubs.
Through this project, Soongsil University will focus on the "Mathematical, Statistical Science, and Artificial Intelligence" sector, undertaking major initiatives such as AI-based medical big data analysis, AI-based multi-omics analysis, and the development of AI algorithms and hardware. The university aims to achieve results in the field of digital health data analysis and utilization, a national strategic technology, and to realize social value by connecting with industry and medical sites.
Soongsil University plans to enable young researchers-including undergraduate research interns, graduate students, and postdoctoral researchers-to take a leading role in the research. The goal is to support students not just as learners but as agents of innovation, thereby establishing an academic ecosystem where research and education create a virtuous cycle.
Lee Yoonjae, President of Soongsil University, stated, "We will actively expand international joint research and industry-academia cooperation to ensure that research outcomes lead to tangible results in industry and society."
