Gyeongju City Discusses APEC Preparations with Senior Consul of U.S. Consulate in Busan

Gyeongju City announced that on September 8, Mayor Joo Nakyoung met with Dewey Moore, senior consul at the U.S. Consulate in Busan, to discuss ways to cooperate in preparation for the 2025 APEC Summit.

Senior Consul Moore, who majored in Korean at university, worked at LG Electronics in Gumi in the 1990s, and served two terms at the U.S. Embassy in Korea, has longstanding ties to Korea. He was appointed as senior consul at the U.S. Consulate in Busan last month.

On this day, Mayor Joo stated, "I hope that the United States will share its experience and expertise in hosting APEC Summits to ensure the success of the event."

In response, Senior Consul Moore remarked, "Gyeongju is a city where the essence of Korean history and culture is well preserved," and wished for the success of the 2025 APEC Summit.

In addition to this meeting, Gyeongju City has continued exchanges with the U.S. government and Congress, including visits from former U.S. President George W. Bush in 2005, former U.S. Ambassador to Korea Mark Lippert in 2015, former U.S. Ambassador to Korea Philip S. Goldberg and a delegation from the Former Members of Congress Association (FMC) in 2023.
