Guaranteeing the Right to Mobility Through Technology... Global Mobility Conference Held for Two Days in Seoul

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that the 2025 Global Mobility Conference will be held for two days starting September 9 at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul. The event, co-hosted with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority and the International Transport Forum of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), will bring together mobility companies, experts, and international organizations from both Korea and abroad. The conference aims to discuss the role of mobility in bridging social gaps and the growth opportunities that technology can bring. This year's theme is "Shaping the Future Together: Unlocking New Possibilities Through Innovation."

On the first day, the opening ceremony will feature keynote speeches by Dmitry Mariyasin, Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and Changhyun Song, President of the Autonomous Vehicle Platform Division at Hyundai Motor Company. The plenary sessions will include Mimi Sheller, Professor at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Gabriel Machini, Researcher at the MIT Media Lab. Representatives from BYD, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, and Joby Aviation, an urban air mobility company, will also attend.

The second day will include a session with East Asian mobility research institutions to discuss research trends and cooperation strategies among Korea, China, and Japan. There will also be a session co-hosted by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and the International Transport Forum. Additional breakout sessions will be held by Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Konkuk University Institute for Mobility Humanities, the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, and the Korean Society of Transportation.

Kang Heeup, Second Vice Minister of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "Future mobility is a core infrastructure that determines the quality of life for citizens. It must go beyond being a simple means of transportation to become a tool that bridges regional mobility gaps and guarantees the basic right to mobility. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen our policies. This conference will serve as an opportunity to share our innovation strategies with the world and lay the foundation for global cooperation."
