Jeollanam-do announced that it has secured a total of 30.3 billion won in special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to enable swift recovery from the heavy rain damage that occurred from July 16 to 20 and to ensure the stability of residents' daily lives.
Due to the recent heavy rains, Jeollanam-do suffered damage to 488 houses (4 partially destroyed, 484 flooded), loss and burial of farmland (52 hectares), damage to 430 river sites, 116 road sites, and 120 water management facilities, with total damages amounting to approximately 104.6 billion won.
In particular, three cities and counties-Naju, Damyang, and Hampyeong-as well as ten towns and townships including Daap-myeon in Gwangyang, were declared special disaster zones. Additionally, five cities and counties, including Gurye and Hwasun, were designated as areas of concern, resulting in widespread damage across Jeollanam-do.
Amid these circumstances, Jeollanam-do recently finalized a total disaster recovery budget of 280.4 billion won. Of the 99.2 billion won in local government contributions, 30.3 billion won (13.4 billion from the province and 16.9 billion from cities and counties) was secured through special grants, which is expected to greatly assist in overcoming the region's challenging fiscal situation.
Kim Yung-rok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, stated, "Securing these special grants is an important achievement for the rapid recovery of residents' daily lives, reinforcement of disaster prevention facilities, and normalization of the local economy." He emphasized, "We will continue to strengthen disaster prevention infrastructure and carry out permanent restoration projects without delay."
