The MoMA Bookstore features approximately 1,100 books across 200 titles related to art, design, and architecture, including exhibition catalogs published by the Museum of Modern Art in New York, as well as design merchandise. It is the world's first and only specialty store dedicated to publications issued by MoMA.
Hyundai Card Vice Chairman Chung Tae-young proposed creating the space in the form of a "bookstore" rather than a design store.
Hyundai Card and the Museum of Modern Art in New York have curated the MoMA Bookstore to provide visitors with a new experience. Books with vibrant covers and striking designs are prominently displayed. Digital content introducing exhibitions currently on view at the Museum of Modern Art in New York is also screened.
The MoMA Bookstore is a space open to anyone interested in art, from professionals in the art and design industries to all art enthusiasts. It offers exhibition catalogs carefully selected by MoMA curators, monographs by contemporary artists, and other publications specializing in modern art history. The store also carries design accessories and lifestyle items from the MoMA Design Store.
Hyundai Card and the Museum of Modern Art in New York established their partnership in 2006 by launching Korea’s first MoMA online design store, and entered into an official partnership in 2010.
Hyundai Card has exclusively sponsored more than 50 major exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. MoMA curators have participated in the selection of collections for the Hyundai Card Design Library and Hyundai Card Art Library. The two organizations have also collaborated on curator exchanges and research between Korea and the United States, as well as discovering promising Korean artists.
Membership benefits have also been enhanced through this collaboration. Hyundai Card members can visit the Museum of Modern Art in New York free of charge. Through the "Hyundai Card MoMA Digital Wall" installed at Hyundai Card’s headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul in March, Seoul residents can view the same leading digital art pieces being exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in real time.
A Hyundai Card representative stated, "The MoMA Bookstore is a one-of-a-kind space established based on 20 years of trust between the Museum of Modern Art in New York and Hyundai Card. We hope that many art lovers will come to understand the history of modern art and experience art through the MoMA Bookstore."
The MoMA Bookstore is open from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays and public holidays. Purchases of books and merchandise made with Hyundai Card receive a 10% discount, and using M Points provides a 20% discount.
