Adolescents in crisis, who are experiencing difficulties at home, in school, personally, or socially, were given time to develop self-growth and confidence, as well as to foster care and cooperation for building positive relationships with others.

The Daejeon Office of Education’s male student home-based Wee Center held the ‘Jaram Journey’ camp, focused on personal growth, for its students from September 1 to September 5. The camp took place over four nights and five days on Yokji Island in Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do.

The home-based Wee Center is a residential educational institution that provides protection, counseling, and education to adolescents in crisis who are facing difficulties at home, in school, personally, or socially.

Students admitted to the center take time to reflect on conflicts and concerns that may arise in their lives, such as those involving themselves, their families, or school. They also learn social skills through various experiential activities and alternative classes.

In addition, they learn methods to overcome and resolve problems on their own and receive support to lead a healthy school life.

‘Jaram’ is a pure Korean word meaning ‘to grow’ or ‘to develop.’ The ‘Jaram Journey’ is one of the main programs at the Daejeon Office of Education’s home-based Wee Center, where students and teachers cook and eat together, walk, reflect, and share meaningful moments, all while learning and acquiring new skills through the process.

Kang Uichang, Director of Future Life Education at the Daejeon Office of Education, stated, “This Jaram Journey camp will serve as a foundation for students to overcome difficulties in life with resilience. We will continue to provide a wide range of support to ensure our students can achieve healthy growth.”
