A Rare Year-Round Public Facility
"Mapo 365 Community Center" Opens as a New Space for Residents
Mapo District in Seoul (District Mayor Park Kangsu) has established the Mapo 365 Community Center within the Seoul Thermal Power Plant's resident convenience facility (98 Tojeong-ro) and will hold its opening ceremony on September 10.
The site, where residents endured inconvenience for many years due to the power plant, has now been reborn as a space for the community, returning to serve local residents. Mapo District named the center "Mapo 365 Community Center" to emphasize that the true owners are the residents and to ensure that it can be enjoyed and used year-round, 365 days a year.
The center has a total floor area of 7,613.87 square meters, with one basement level and five above-ground floors. The first floor features a "Plaza of Encounters" where residents can naturally gather and communicate, as well as a cafe and various retail facilities. The second floor houses a health management center with a fitness center and sauna. The third floor includes a multipurpose room and a group exercise (GX) room, while the fourth floor is a multipurpose gymnasium, providing a "lifestyle sports space" where residents can exercise while enjoying views of the Han River.
On the fifth-floor outdoor observatory, which offers excellent views of the Han River, visitors can relax and unwind while taking in the scenery of Bamseom. On the rooftop, the "Mapo 365 Observatory" has been installed, allowing visitors to experience the stars and the universe in the heart of the city.
The Mapo 365 Community Center is currently in a trial operation phase. Program information can be found on the Mapo Sports Club website (mapogym.or.kr).
Park Kangsu, Mayor of Mapo District, stated, "The Mapo 365 Community Center is more than just a resident convenience facility; it represents a meaningful transformation as a space that was long separated from residents' lives returns to the community. I hope the Mapo 365 Community Center becomes a place where residents can laugh, rest, and enjoy everyday life together."
