Labor, Management, Citizens, and Government Gather on the 8th
Discussing Key Regional Labor Issues
Deliberation on Establishing a Petrochemical Crisis Response Body
Proposal for Designating a Proactive Employment Crisis Response Area
On September 8 at 3:00 p.m., Ulsan City will hold the "2025 First Ulsan Metropolitan City Labor-Management-Government-Civil Society Council" in the main conference room on the second floor of Ulsan City Hall to discuss major labor issues in the Ulsan region.
About 20 people will attend the meeting, including Mayor Kim Dukyum, Kim Chungkon, head of the Ulsan Regional Headquarters of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions, and Lee Yooncheol, chairman of the Ulsan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The meeting will proceed with the following agenda: ▲ Appointment of committee members ▲ Deliberation on the plan to establish and operate a consultative body for responding to the petrochemical industry crisis ▲ Deliberation on the proposal to designate a "Proactive Employment Crisis Response Area" ▲ Announcement of a joint declaration by labor, management, government, and civil society to create a "Safe (Clean) Industrial Complex" for a safer labor environment ▲ Reports on current issues.
The main agenda item for deliberation is the "Plan for Establishing and Operating a Petrochemical Crisis Response Consultative Body." This will involve forming a non-permanent organization to actively seek crisis response measures at the labor-management-government-civil society level and to operate the body for the purposes of information sharing and policy proposals across the entire petrochemical industry.
The proposal to designate a "Proactive Employment Crisis Response Area" was prepared in response to the Ministry of Employment and Labor's "Notice on the Criteria for Designating Proactive Employment Crisis Response Areas," which was implemented on July 31.
This proposal aims to proactively address the employment crisis in the petrochemical sector by gathering regional public opinion at the labor-management-government-civil society level and deliberating on the designation of the area as a "Proactive Employment Crisis Response Area."
In addition, the joint declaration to create a "Safe (Clean) Industrial Complex" for a safer labor environment reflects the collective efforts to ensure worker safety at industrial sites.
The current issues report will include updates on the opening of the third Mobile Worker Rest Area in Mugeo-dong, Nam-gu, and the construction of a memorial tower for industrial accident victims.
Mayor Kim Dukyum stated, "Labor and management are not competitors but strong partners who overcome crises together in the global economic environment. Ulsan will move from being the industrial capital of Korea to becoming the capital of artificial intelligence (AI), and stable labor-management relations will serve as a solid foundation on this journey."
The "Ulsan Metropolitan City Labor-Management-Government-Civil Society Council" was launched in 2023 to build a cooperative labor-management relationship and to discuss major labor-related issues in the region, with participation from Ulsan City, workers, employers, and citizens.
