Plaque Unveiling Ceremony for Youth-Friendly City
and Project Launch Event Held
Geochang County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on September 8 that it held the Youth-Friendly City plaque unveiling ceremony and the project launch event at the county office's main conference room and in front of the main entrance.
This event marked the official declaration of Geochang County's full-scale project implementation as the first region in South Korea to be designated a Youth-Friendly City. It signified a major leap forward in youth policy for the county.
More than 60 people attended the event, including County Governor Koo Inmo, National Assemblyman Shin Sungbeom, Geochang County Council Chairman Lee Jaeun, Provincial Assembly members Park Jueon and Kim Ilsu, as well as representatives from organizations and groups participating in the Youth-Friendly City Relay Challenge and local youth.
The slogan for the launch event was "Active Geochang," reflecting the spirit of coexistence in which youth take the lead in creating a Geochang where young people are happy, and a Geochang that is happy because of its youth. The symbolic color of Youth-Friendly City Geochang was set as orange, creating a vibrant and dynamic atmosphere representative of the local youth.
The first part of the event featured a pre-ceremony performance by young people, a business plan presentation by the youth network representative, case studies from cultural clubs and startup communities, a video capturing the voices of youth, and a b-boying performance using orange boxes.
The second part included the unveiling ceremony of the Youth-Friendly City plaque, further highlighting the significance of the event. Notably, youth were directly involved in planning and operating every stage of the event, vividly demonstrating the intent behind youth-led policies.
County Governor Koo Inmo stated, "Geochang County's designation as South Korea's first Youth-Friendly City is the result of various policy efforts we have pursued together with young people over the years. Moving forward, we will actively discover and promote customized policies so that youth can establish themselves confidently in the region and continue to grow."
Meanwhile, Geochang County plans to use this launch event as a springboard to accelerate the creation of a "Geochang where youth are happy" by implementing practical policies such as establishing a youth policy vision, providing capacity-building (startup) education for youth, and creating youth spaces.
