This award is presented by the Ministry of Environment to institutions that have made significant contributions to environmental conservation, practiced carbon neutrality, and achieved outstanding results in promoting ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance)-based policies, in celebration of Resource Circulation Day.

The city explained that it received high marks for its public-private partnership project to transition to large-scale use of reusable containers. In March, Yongin City signed an agreement with the Ministry of Environment and Samsung C&T Resort Division to fully introduce reusable containers at a total of 42 locations, including 27 stores at Everland, 12 stores at Caribbean Bay, and employee cafeterias.

This collaboration among the three organizations was recognized as a model case for establishing a culture of reusable containers at large tourist attractions by reducing the use of approximately 2 million single-use cups annually.

The city has implemented a complete ban on bringing single-use cups into government buildings. At cafes within the government complex, incentives are provided based on tumbler usage, and a promotional campaign utilizing the city’s mascot, 'Joayong,' has helped establish a 'zero single-use cup government building' culture.

In cooperation with specialized companies, Yongin City has introduced an integrated system covering rental, collection, washing, and reuse, thereby creating an environment for reusable container use in the private sector, including restaurants, coffee shops, delivery apps, and festival venues.

Additionally, the city is encouraging citizen participation by introducing reusable containers at 12 major local festivals, including the 'Renaissance Festival,' 'Singal Five-way Intersection Festival,' and 'Yongin Marathon.'

Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin City, stated, "We will continue to develop and implement policies to lead the transition to a resource-circulating society and contribute to achieving carbon neutrality."
