Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters will launch a campaign to eliminate fire hazards and promote everyday safety, focusing on homes and traditional markets, ahead of this year's seven-day Chuseok holiday.
The headquarters will first conduct intensive inspections for fire risks, focusing on vulnerable residential facilities such as traditional markets, multi-use facilities, migrant worker accommodations, and old apartment complexes. In particular, preventive patrols will be strengthened at logistics hubs for parcel deliveries.
In addition, considering the main fire risks during the holiday period-such as carelessness while cooking and increased use of electrical appliances and batteries-the headquarters will carry out on-site, tailored prevention activities. These will include fire safety inspections, reinforcement of voluntary safety management, and campaigns to install residential firefighting equipment.
The headquarters also plans to provide separate guidance on precautions and safety regulations related to fires involving battery-powered products, such as electric scooters and electric bicycles.
Kim Jaebyung, head of Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "This Chuseok, families will spend more time together than ever before, so it is essential to prepare accordingly for fire safety. Please remember that following even one basic safety rule can protect the entire holiday period."
Meanwhile, during the Chuseok holiday period over the past five years (2020-2024), there have been an average of 15.8 fires per day in the province, totaling 347 cases. Of these, 39% occurred in residential spaces such as homes.
