Police Investigate Connection to Attempted Murder
Prime Suspect Believed to Have Died in the Fire
A fire, suspected to be arson, broke out in an apartment in Nowon-gu, Seoul, resulting in one fatality. Police believe the prime suspect was found dead at the scene, having perished in the fire.
According to the Nowon Police Station and Nowon Fire Station, the fire started at around 12:04 a.m. on the fifth floor of a 15-story apartment building in Gongneung-dong, Nowon-gu, and was extinguished at approximately 1:01 a.m., about an hour later. Due to the fire, more than 80 neighboring residents evacuated, and one body was discovered inside the apartment.
The police suspect that the deceased is a male resident in his 60s, referred to as Mr. A. However, as the body was severely damaged by the fire, they plan to request an identity verification test from the National Forensic Service.
Police received a report just before the fire that a woman in her 50s had been stabbed near the apartment, and they are considering Mr. A as the prime suspect. It is reported that Mr. A and the victim were acquaintances. The victim sustained a neck injury, was transported to a nearby hospital, and was discharged later that morning.
The police are focusing their investigation on the possibility that Mr. A committed attempted murder and then set the apartment on fire, and are working to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
