Towards a City of Gender Equality in Sejong
Respect and Happiness for All
On September 6, the city of Sejong held the "2025 Gender Equality Week Commemorative Event" at the Sejong Citizens' Gymnasium.
Gender Equality Week is designated every year from September 1 to 7 under the Framework Act on Gender Equality, aiming to promote the realization of gender equality and raise public awareness.
This year's event was attended by over 300 people, including citizens and representatives from institutions and organizations, who reaffirmed their commitment to spreading the values of gender equality and putting them into practice. During the commemorative ceremony, the "Rigo" club from Jongchon Middle School presented a sign language musical.
In particular, six individuals who made significant contributions in various fields-such as raising gender equality awareness in the local community, spreading a culture of equality, and expanding women's social participation and rights-were recognized with awards from the Mayor of Sejong.
The experience and promotional booths featured a variety of activities, including a campaign to prevent dating violence, a household chores sharing game, and a pregnancy simulation, all of which received enthusiastic responses. Local women's organizations and institutions also engaged with citizens through promotional activities to encourage the practice of gender equality.
Lee Youngok, Director of the Health and Welfare Bureau, stated, "Gender equality is not just about the rights of men and women; it is the foundation for building a society where all citizens are respected and can live happily." She added, "I hope this event serves as an opportunity to spread a culture of gender equality in everyday life."
