Enhancing Practical Skills and Community Spirit
Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwangdeok) announced on September 7 that Mayor Joo Gwangdeok personally visited and encouraged volunteers at the '2025 Red Cross Volunteer Disaster Response Capacity Building Workshop' held in the areas of Taean County and Boryeong City, Chungnam Province.

The workshop was held over two days, on the 5th and 6th, with 86 members of the Namyangju City Council of the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Association participating. The program focused on enhancing volunteers' disaster response capabilities and strengthening internal communication within the organization through hands-on disaster safety training and teamwork activities.
On the first day of the workshop, disaster safety education took place at Hanseo University in Taean, and on the second day, participants engaged in nature-based healing programs and teamwork activities at Sanghwawon in Boryeong City. Notably, this training was structured around practical scenarios simulating various disaster situations, which was highly rated by participants for both its effectiveness and level of satisfaction.
At the opening ceremony on the afternoon of the 5th, Mayor Joo Gwangdeok, who also serves as the honorary branch president of the Namyangju City Council of the Korean Red Cross Volunteer Association, visited in person to commend the volunteers for their dedication and emphasized the importance of enhancing professional skills for disaster response. During a special lecture, he also shared his vision for citizen-centered municipal administration and engaged in open communication with the participants.
Mayor Joo Gwangdeok stated, "The Red Cross Volunteer Association has long served as a reliable pillar for disaster response in our community. I hope that through this workshop, volunteers will not only strengthen their practical skills but also further develop their capacity for community recovery and problem-solving."
The city plans to continue providing effective disaster response training and specialized capacity-building programs for volunteers even after the workshop, with the aim of supporting Red Cross volunteers so they can respond quickly and effectively at actual disaster sites.
