Park Chanwook's "No Other Choice" Secures Path to 200 Countries... Production Costs Recovered Before Release

Director Park Chanwook's new film "No Other Choice" may have missed out on an award at the Venice International Film Festival, but it has paved the way for release in 200 countries worldwide. According to distributor CJ ENM on September 7, the film has been pre-sold to major companies with distribution networks in North America, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Japan. This has secured a foundation for screenings in 200 countries, surpassing the record of Park's previous work "Decision to Leave" (2022), which was released in 192 countries.

CJ ENM stated, "We have recouped the net production cost, excluding marketing and promotional expenses, solely through pre-sale revenue." This means the film has already surpassed its break-even point before its release. "No Other Choice," which depicts the story of Mansu (played by Lee Byunghun), a laid-off breadwinner who embarks on a 'war' to get re-employed, is set to premiere in Korea on September 24.

After missing out on an award at the Venice International Film Festival, director Park Chanwook and Lee Byunghun will head straight to Toronto from Italy. "No Other Choice" has been invited to the Gala Presentation section of the 50th Toronto International Film Festival, which opened on September 4, and Lee Byunghun has been selected as a recipient of a special achievement award.
