AI Model Challenge to Predict Customer Menu Demand at Gonjiam Resort
Top 3 Teams to Receive 10 Million Won and LG Application Document Exemption
LG has hosted the 'LG Aimers Hackathon,' a practical competition aimed at solving industrial challenges using artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
The 7th edition of the competition was held on September 6-7 at the LG Academy in Icheon, Gyeonggi Province. Out of 2,570 applicants, 102 participants who passed online training and preliminary rounds-surviving a 25-to-1 competition ratio-advanced to the finals.
The theme of the competition was 'Developing an AI Model to Predict Customer Menu Demand at Gonjiam Resort Food & Beverage Outlets,' proposed by LG affiliate D&O. Participants designed AI models that utilized data such as the number of visitors and sales by outlet to suggest solutions for ingredient management, workforce allocation, and improving customer satisfaction.
LG plans to select the top three teams-including the Grand Prize (Minister of Employment and Labor Award) and the Excellence Award (LG AI Research Institute President's Award)-and present awards in October. The winning teams will receive a total prize of 10 million won, along with an exemption from the document screening process when applying for positions at LG.
LG Aimers is a youth AI talent development program that has been running since the second half of 2022, reflecting the philosophy of Koo Kwangmo, CEO of LG Corporation, who believes that "talent is the starting point of technology and innovation, and the source of national competitiveness." So far, 17,000 people have completed the training program.
The hackathon is held every year during the summer and winter vacations, and any young person aged 19 to 29 with basic AI knowledge and coding skills is eligible to participate.
