Discussion on Global Energy Transition Response on the 16th
Exploring a Sustainable Energy Innovation Ecosystem
UNIST will hold the '1st Future Energy Innovation Forum' on September 16 at the Kyungdong Hall on the 4th floor of the university headquarters.
The event aims to discuss the transformation and response of the energy industry amid global environmental changes, as well as the establishment of a sustainable innovation ecosystem.
This event is organized by the U Future Strategy Institute, which was launched in May. The institute serves as a think tank that designs future growth strategies for the region and industry and builds a knowledge exchange network.
This is the first event since its establishment. Around 150 representatives from industry, academia, research, and government-including Ulsan City Hall, Korea Energy Agency, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and University of Ulsan-will gather.
The forum will feature one keynote speech and three expert presentations. The keynote will be delivered by Kim Hyunje, President of the Korea Energy Economics Institute, on the topic of "Global Environmental Changes and Directions for Energy Policy Responses."
This will be followed by three presentations: Kim Kangwon, Director of the Renewable Energy Policy Division at the Korea Energy Agency, will introduce "Trends in Domestic and International Renewable Energy Policies." Ahn Jongbo, Research Fellow at the Blue Economy Strategy Institute, will present "Energy Storage Technology and Industry Outlook." Choi Kangsik, Director of Technology Innovation at Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power, will address "The Role and Future of Nuclear Power in the Era of Energy Mix and AI." All presentations will cover the energy innovation ecosystem and industrial changes in the age of AI.
A panel discussion is also scheduled. The session will be chaired by Lim Hangwon, Director of the UNIST Carbon Neutral Demonstration Center. Panelists include Kim Junbeom, Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering at University of Ulsan, and Ahn Seongchan, Executive Director at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. The discussion topic is "Challenges and Opportunities for Sustainable Development in the Era of Energy Transition."
This forum will address both on-site perspectives and policy directions. Each presentation and discussion is expected to serve as a starting point for exploring new strategies.
Seo Byeonggi, Director of the U Future Strategy Institute, stated, "Starting with this forum, we plan to continuously create opportunities for universities, research institutes, and industries in the region to share knowledge, exchange science and technology and policy, and enhance innovation capabilities together."
