Heavy rain of up to 63mm fell overnight in Gwangju and Jeonnam, and strong rainfall is expected to continue throughout the day.
According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration on September 7, as of 7:30 a.m., the recorded precipitation was 63mm in Sangmu Base, Jangseong County, Jeonnam; 44mm in Hampyeong County; 33mm in Yeomsan-myeon, Yeonggwang County; 28mm in Shinan County; and 26.5mm at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology. The hourly rainfall was 32.2mm in Yeonggwang County, 29mm in Sangmu Base, Jangseong County, 28mm in both Hampyeong and Shinan Counties, and 23mm in Pungam-dong, Gwangju.
The Korea Meteorological Administration has forecast that strong rain, ranging from 30 to 80mm per hour, will continue intermittently until 6 p.m. on this day. Some areas, including Gwangju and northern Jeonnam, may experience cumulative rainfall exceeding 100mm.
The rain is expected to pause briefly and then resume between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. on September 8, with an additional 30 to 80mm of rain projected through late night on September 9. As of now, no damage from the rain has been reported.
