When asked about the incident, President Trump said, "I only heard about the incident right before the press conference," and added, "I don't know anything about the case." Regarding Hyundai Motor Group, which had previously announced major investment plans in the United States and was the subject of the search, he commented, "They have the right to sell cars in the United States, and this is not a one-sided deal."

When asked about concerns that the policy goals of immigration enforcement and revitalizing manufacturing might be in conflict, he responded, "We want to have good relationships with other countries and we want a great, stable workforce," but emphasized, "When it comes to undocumented immigrants, we have to do our job."

The U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Georgia State Patrol, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted a large-scale immigration crackdown the previous day at the Hyundai Motor Group battery factory construction site in Bryan County, Georgia. As a result of the operation, 475 people were arrested, and U.S. authorities stated that the majority were South Korean nationals.
