The Muan County Council in South Jeolla Province has commenced its official legislative activities by opening the 303rd extraordinary session, which will run for eight days until September 12.
A total of 36 agenda items have been submitted for this session, including 17 proposed by council members and 19 submitted by the executive branch. Notably, the session will include deliberation on the second supplementary budget of the year, with a focus on the direction of county financial management and strategies for efficient budget execution.
At the first plenary session held on September 5, Assembly members Jeong Eunkyung and Park Ssangbae each delivered a "five-minute free speech," urging stronger administrative responses to local issues. Assemblywoman Jeong called for measures to address the medical waste incineration facility, while Assemblyman Park emphasized the need for institutional improvements to resolve conflicts related to environmental facilities.
In addition, a proposal urging the expansion of the Hanbit Nuclear Power Plant’s radiation emergency planning zone, sponsored by Assemblyman Kim Wonjung, was unanimously passed and will be forwarded to the relevant ministries.
In his opening remarks, Chairman Lee Hoseong stated, "We will make the safety and quality of life of our residents the top priority, thoroughly review all aspects of county administration, and propose rational alternatives."
During the extraordinary session, each standing committee and the special budget and accounts committee will review the agenda items. The session is scheduled to conclude after the final resolutions are adopted at the second plenary session on September 12.
