Jeonju City Provides 'Commuting Expenses' Support for High School Students from Low-Income Families

Easing the Burden of Transportation Costs

The Jeonju Welfare Foundation (Chairman Yoon Bangseop) in North Jeolla Province has provided commuting expenses to 100 high school students from low-income families.

According to the foundation on September 5, this support initiative was implemented to help students continue their studies and to promote transportation welfare. The recipients are high school students from low-income families residing in Jeonju who commute more than 2 kilometers to school and use public transportation or shuttle buses for their daily commute.

Previously, in the first half of the year, the foundation provided 120,000 won per student. In the second half, the amount was increased to 135,000 won per student to reflect the recent rise in city bus fares for youth, which took effect last month. As a result, the annual support per student has increased to a total of 255,000 won.

Since 2023, the foundation has supported a total of 554 students through the “Commuting Expense Support Program for Youths from Low-Income Families,” enabling them to commute to school stably and focus on their studies.

Yoon Bangseop, Chairman of the Jeonju Welfare Foundation, stated, “No student’s education should be disrupted due to the burden of transportation costs. With the recent increase in bus fares, commuting support has become even more essential. We will continue this program so that commuting to school can truly become a path toward students’ dreams.”
